Anniversary Gift Ideas You Can’t Resist by Anand Rajkumar
———- Wedding anniversaries are moments to cherish, and indeed they should be since anniversaries of this kind brings back a lot of memories. It is also a time to maybe retake those vows or just relect on how well you have been keeping them. Irregardless of how you look at it you still need to get a gift for your spouse and you are expected to get a meaningful gift as well.
Traditionally, most countries of the world celebrate the 25th wedding anniversary which is also referred to as the Silver wedding anniversary and which originated in Europe where it is reputed a man gave his beloved wife a heavy silver chain on the 25th year of their marriage. The 50th anniversary is just as reverred, as it is seen as a milestone. The 50th wedding anniversary is also referred to as The Golden anniversary.
There are currently two Diamond anniversaries celebrated, one at the traditional anniversary after 75 years of marriage. However in 1897 Queen Victoria held lavish celebrations on her 60th anniversary since becoming Queen, and thus, 60 also became accepted as a Diamond anniversary. There is also a 100th anniversary, for those who live to see it, however, the longest recorded marriage lasted 81 years.
Each milestone year of a wedding anniversary, according to wedding anniversary etiquette, is a symbol of accomplishment and therefore milestone years are usually met with the appropriate gift. Of course there are quite a few oldtimers with respect for traditions who strictly follow the theme of the anniversary year but still modern gift ideas are taking over.
Precious stones and gems are always the first choice as anniversary gifts, only in recent times gems do not necessarily come in the form of jewelry, but rather can be impressed on oak jewelry boxes or frames of family portraits. However, rest assured antique clocks, watches and Chinaware are still wonderful anniversary gifts.
But always remember a wedding anniversary is a celebration of a time spent together and the promise of more to come so usually the best gifts to get are those that preserve those moments of time gone past. Visual reminders are great, items like scrapbooks, family portraits and quilts for special occasions. ———-
